Classical Education

Baylee and Lydia began the second half of their school year this week. They are attending Covenant Classical Academy here in Louisville. http://www.covenant-classical.org/

They are enjoying the small classes, their new teachers and are being challenged like never before. The curriculum is different in that they are being classically trained. The short explanation is that Classical education trains and teaches children to learn instead of just teaching them facts and information. This also helps them to form a worldview that will bring God most glory. When you are learning to learn, you are simultaneously observing how all things are derived in the Author of life and learning Himself. How does each subject relate to God and His exact representation in Jesus Christ. We are thrilled that the children are able to have this opportunity. And we ask that you join with us in praying for them as they venture out into unknown territory. For Lydia its learning 40 new phonograms and math sentences/word problems, for Baylee its studying Logic and learning LATIN!!!!!!! They are both doing well. Kids are like sponges, aren't they??? It's a funny site as I try and pronounce Baylee's Latin flashcards:) The Lord will help us:)

This is a brief introduction to the school's method from their website:

CCA utilizes the time honored, Biblically based, Classical curriculum of the Trivium. This method, begun formally in Greece, developed in Rome and brought to full flower in Medieval Christendom, follows the Trivium of Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric. In the Grammar School of CCA, a student, in accordance with the progression of the Trivium, is taught to memorize and observe God’s glorious creations in every area from Mathematics and Science, to History and Bible, to Latin and English Grammar. In the Logic School the students are brought to more maturity as they are taught to locate God’s glorious creation, discern truth from falsehood, and express themselves precisely and clearly. In the final stage of the Trivium, that of Rhetoric, the students are taught to discern the deep things of the creation in the fields of Philosophy, Mathematics, Theology, Science, and History. During this stage they are also taught to express themselves with beauty and precision in every area into which Christ has called them to work.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm impressed & excited that your children will be receiving such and amazing christian education. I can help Baylee with those flash cards if you let me read them in "pig-latin!" Love, Julie

It's official: we are now BFF. Your blog has paisley on it (SO CUTE!), you have a MH Peasant Princess video, your kids go to my school, and you have curly hair. I don't know why that makes a difference, but it does. BFF.

That's all.

;)
